Chapter 24

Photographing Throuhg Glass

Photographing a scene through glass could be a problem since
your camera's autofocus device will be fooled by it, and will
focus on the glass instead of the scene/subject. Another problem
is a flash reflection in the glass. In order to avoid focusing on
the glass and getting a flash reflection, it is advisable to turn
off the autofocus, as well as flash systems. Keeping your
camera`s flash at an angle to the glass, will ensure you from
getting unwanted flash reflection appearing in your photo, as you
can see it here. Here, the tropical fish in the aquarium was photographed through the glass. Altering the flash's direction so
that its reflection was aimed at the top of the tank and away
from the main subjects, contributing to the photo by creating an
illusion of the day-light coming through the thickness of the
water and allowed for a naturally appearing scene.
