Chapter 19

Framing Choices.

Forming obvious frames, arches, arched doorways, cracks,
holes, windows and other naturally and man-made architectural
details, often serve as the simplest and the most visually
appealing framing choices. While it is important to make sure
that the shapes of the frames you use add a character to your
subject, utilizing wrong frames could alter, and sometimes even
destroy the image appearance. Look for the frames that can
contribute to your image elements, just as in this photo of the
bust of the MiddlEastern man photographed in the nightclub. As
you can see it in this photo, the foreground frame of the shop-
window with the elements painted on it, did not only contribute
to the compositional structure of the picture elements and gave a
character to the photo, but also added depth to it. The
silhouette of a woman was enhanced by the silhouetted archway in
this photograph.
