Design
Since some elements of the design could be a very
powerful
compositional tool, in their ability to form the composition
by
having power over the direction, control, and intensity
of the
viewer's attention, knowing that a spot positioned
against a
contrasting, but plain background, attracts the viewer's
attention, could prove crucial when such emphasizing
effect is
needed. Rarely a single element of design is found
in isolation,
usually a group of several spots, or in other words,
any small
objects together make up the design, as in this ceramically
ornamented hub-cap and the painted tire of the car.
Lines, giving the eye direction, by moving it across
the pic
ture and toward the edges of the frame, assist in
the creation
of shapes, as in this and following composition. The
intricate
details of the bus' back-door's mosaic decoration,
only
peacefully interrupted by the lines developed by the
door's shape
and directing the eye towards the edges of the picture
area's frame, together with the red cardinal at the
upper left imaginary
crossed-line-intersection of the license plate, form
a certain
shape and design.
